Introduction

SPEER-A is a transnational cooperation project funded by the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme, bringing together research institutions and local authorities from Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Türkiye with a common goal: to strengthen preparedness, resilience and emergency response capacity against earthquake disasters.
Inspired by the lessons learned from recent devastating earthquakes in the region, the project promotes closer cooperation between scientists, decision-makers, rescue teams, volunteers and local communities. Through joint actions, innovative tools and knowledge exchange, SPEER-A seeks to improve disaster risk management and contribute to safer and more resilient societies across the Black Sea Basin.
The project develops and tests innovative solutions, including a Virtual Reality Laboratory for earthquake hazards, a mobile application for emergency preparedness and response, and a concept for temporary emergency housing adaptable to the conditions of different countries. In parallel, training activities, support to volunteer networks and educational actions for schools will help raise awareness and strengthen the culture of prevention.
By working together across borders, SPEER-A aims to build lasting partnerships and contribute to a more prepared and resilient Black Sea region.
